About Farmington Hills
Farmington Hills is younger than its roots. Arthur Power, a Quaker from Farmington, New York, bought land here in 1823, and the settlers who followed in 1824 called the place Quakertown. Farmington became its own city in 1926, and the rest of the township, including small villages formed in the 1950s, did not merge into the City of Farmington Hills until 1973.
Grand River Avenue is the old spine. It began as a plank road between Detroit and Howell, and the Botsford Inn, built in 1836 and bought by Henry Ford in 1924, was moved back from the road when it was widened. Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital stands nearby on a campus that opened in 1965 as Botsford General. I-696, I-275 and M-5 cut across the city, with Orchard Lake Road, Twelve Mile Road and Northwestern Highway as the main business roads.
Office and engineering space is the local specialty. Nissan's North American technical center has been here since 1991, and Bosch and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services have run U.S. operations from the city. This is home base for us, at 37000 Grand River. Next door in downtown Farmington, sisters Michele and Marisa ran Focal Point Studio of Photography for 44 years, and we were proud to help tell that story.
