Commercial Real Estate in White Lake, Michigan

About White Lake

Harley Olmsted came from New York in 1830 and is recognized as White Lake Township's first settler. His family stayed with a neighbor in Waterford Township while their house went up, and the township was set off in 1836. The township has 21 lakes, the upper Huron River passes through, and there is no incorporated city or village inside its boundaries.

The two named communities are small crossroads. Oxbow sits at Union Lake and Elizabeth Lake roads, and White Lake at Ormond and White Lake roads, where the National Weather Service keeps its local forecast office. Most commercial development runs along M-59, known here as Highland Road, so a search for retail or service space in the township is largely a search along that one corridor.

Much of the remaining land is recreational. Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area and Indian Springs Metropark are both here, part of Highland Recreation Area reaches into the township, and Edsel and Eleanor Ford bought land here in the 1920s for their Haven Hill estate. Alpine Valley has run as a ski resort since 1961, and White Lake Oaks offers public golf. Hospitality and retail along the highway serve that traffic.
